From time to time, you will need to store items in a self-storage unit. One of the most popular categories of things that usually require storage is household appliances. Today we will be focusing on storing microwaves in particular. You may need to store your microwave for several reasons. You may have moved to an apartment that already has one. Or you are migrating and have to give up your apartment and store your microwave until you return. Whatever the reason, there is a proper way to store your microwave to minimize damage. We will walk you through the process below.
Step 1- Clean your microwave thoroughly. All you need is a clean damp cloth with light soap and water. Wipe both the inner and outer surfaces.
Step 2- Remove the glass turntable and package it securely. We suggest that you wrap it in bubble wrap and tape it. This should be placed in a separate box, not with the microwave.
Step 3- Procure a strong cardboard box that is large enough to hold your microwave. If you still have the original box, use it.
Step 4- Tape the door close with packing tape to prevent damage
Step 5- Wrap up the power cord and tap it to the side of the microwave.
Step 6- Wrap the microwave in bubble wrap and place it into the box. If you don't have bubble wrap, you can use towels as a substitute. Usually, your storage unit facility may have packing supplies; be sure to ask.
Step 7- Place your boxed microwave upright on a flat surface. If you have other items to store, be mindful of what you place in the microwave box.
As you can tell, storing a microwave in a storage unit is essential for preserving your appliance. The tips above should ensure that your microwave remains in good working condition.
